Our policies
Adopting an animal is a serious, life changing step that you should consider carefully. Caring for an animal demands time, money and commitment - have you got all of that? It is a decision that could transform your life for the next twenty years. There is the initial adoption fee, of course, but you must also take into account all the following costs: food and grooming, veterinary bills, sitter/kennel fees and insurance, which is a must! If you are working full time, DO NOT GET A DOG, unless you can either afford a dog-walker or make time for the dog in your schedule. Dogs are intelligent pack animals; they need to interact with you. Do not forget that you are your dog's companion just as much as (s)he is yours. The dog will need walking everyday come rain or shine, and taking out at regular intervals. You will have to make trips to the vet and of course to work on its socialisation and interaction with other dogs and people. Training should be enjoyed by the whole family, and everybody should be committed to taking responsibility for the dog.
We welcome and assess each potential adopter individually and with thorough care. We will always discuss your family situation in details, listen to your expectations and advise you to the best of our expertise so you can be matched with the best companion for your circumstances. We do of course consider families with children, provided we have a suitable dog available, and we are satisfied that the family are aware of the extra care needed when children and dogs live together. We know that not all our dogs are suitable to live with children, cats or other dogs. You must be aware that if you have a cat, or cats, finding you a dog might be a little difficult. Your cat might not accept a new dog and could even decide to leave home. We know our dogs, we are experienced, and we always consider the whole picture - please trust us to find you the best dog.
OUR ADOPTION PROCEDURE
Before you adopt a dog from us, you must fill in a rehoming questionnaire. Once we have got it back, we will go through our adoption process with you. It consists in: - an informal interview to make sure that you are aware of the responsibilities of good dog ownership and that the environment is right for you to share your life with a dog. We will not rehome a dog if (s)he is going to be left alone for more than four hours a day. A home visit is required prior to rehoming. Remember that if your property is rented or if you live in a flat you need to have written permission to keep a dog at the premises. Find out what the situation is to avoid disappointment! During the home visit, we will ask you to show two forms of identification to prove your identity. We will not rehome a dog to anyone under the age of 21. We hold the right to refuse anyone whom we feel may not be a suitable adopter for one of our dogs. We also reserve the right to reclaim the dog if the owner has been reported for cruelty or if the dog has been used for working purposes.
